Vital Impacts Annual Print Sale 2024
I am thrilled to offer this photograph of a black rhino named Bruno, peacefully resting beneath a rainbow at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya as a Vital Impacts fine art print in our Winter collection. There are over 100 stunning photos that tell powerful stories from around the world and we will be supporting an organization working with 511 indigenous communities in the Amazon – COICA.
It is my hope that this work will help raise awareness of the urgent challenges facing our planet. In the last fifty years, we have lost 73 percent of the world’s wildlife—a stark reminder of the magnitude of the biodiversity crisis we are confronting. The future of our planet is in our hands. We cannot afford to feel paralyzed by the scale of the challenge nor can we afford to wait for someone else to act – this is up to us.
This image speaks of the possibility for healing this planet offers us if we work together and give nature a chance. Kenya’s black rhinos, once on the brink of extinction, have made a remarkable recovery over the past three decades. From a population of 240 in 1984, numbers have soared to over 1,000 thanks to the collaborative efforts of communities, government agencies, and conservation organizations. The sanctuaries now face a positive, yet pressing new challenge: overcrowding in existing sanctuaries.
This year, The Nature Conservancy and KenyaWildlifeService (KWS) translocated 21 eastern black rhinos, including Bruno, to Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia County. Loisaba, which has not had rhinos for 50 years due to past poaching, has dedicated over half of its 58,000 acres to provide a new home for these majestic creatures. I am here now with them and they are thriving!
I hope this photograph serves as a source of inspiration for everyone who sees it, reminding us all of the urgent need to protect our planet and the diverse species that call it home. Please visit https://bit.ly/vitalprints
