The Zacuto Z-Finder Pro 2.5x for 3.2″ screens is another one of Zacuto’s Optical Viewfinders that allows small bodied DSLR cameras with 3.2″ screens to have the correct form factor for video. It offers 2.5x focusable magnification (3x is available), a 40 mm diameter Zacuto optical designed lens, and an anti-fog coating protective cover.
Heavy duty tripod, with a really smooth head, make this our go-to combo when we have a serious shoot.
Lightweight tripod, with a much less robust head than the 546B. Nonetheless, great when you need to stay light.
Great for small spaces, quick repositioning of shots, and fairly simple tilts and zoom.
Great for assignments when weight is an issue.
We initially started using these when we had the issue of not being able to monitor audio through our DSLR’s (now we can, with the Nikon D4s and D800). However, we still find a great use for it, as you always want to record multiple audio tracks, and you have a lot more audio control via the Zoom, than through most cameras.
Sound is the most important element of any film, even more important than the visuals. People will watch a film with okay visuals but they will not sit through scratchy sound. That is why I use this wireless kit for every interview. Its on my essential list.
We don’t hear sound in the same way a recorder does, so you’re quite likely not to notice an air conditioner, refrigerator or fan when the recorder is picking it up. Its essential to have a good set of headphones and these fold up compactly.
